ABOUT

WHO WE ARE | WHAT WE DO

We are a family ran eco-lodge situated on 40 acres of reclaimed forest land in Wamunyu, Machakos. We started as small family farm over 30 years ago when our founders bought this semi arid land that had been destroyed due to over farming and the cutting down of trees to make handicrafts. Over time they have rehabilitated the land by planting a variety of indigenous and ornamental trees and now we have over 150 species of trees which has brought local and migratory birdlife, pollinators and wild animals into this sanctuary.

Tree diversity is the key to the thriving ecosystem that we have here at Muthoki Country Lodge. Our forest captures carbon and puts it into the soil and releases oxygen. To support our reclamation project we set up a seedling nursery that over time grew to be one of the largest nurseries in the region, giving free seedlings to schools and local communities to help conserve their environment.

Key feature that we have to support our ecosystem is a water catchment area that services the forest, our gardens and seedling nurseries and during times of drought that is prevalent in the area we open up to allow the community to harvest water. We hope to you soon at Muthoki Country Lodge. Enjoy our hospitality and our thriving ecosystem. Karibu | Welcome

In 2018 we saw the opportunity to open up and provide travelers, students, the community with the opportunity to enjoy this natural habitat. We built 8 self contained cottages that can accommodate up to 16 people. The idea is not to be mass market but to be as unique and provide a natural experience in your ecosystem. Using locally sourced materials all cottages are fully furnished and equipped with kitchenette, appliances, linens.

We grow and source all our produce locally and believe in organic farm to table meals, expect something different every season. As part of our sustainable measures we have set up own composting system, organic vegetable garden, compost toilets, no use of chemical pesticides.

Guests get to enjoy educational nature walks, jog or bike in the forest, yoga(by reservation), meditation, and bird watch (we have over 40 species)
